Acceptable Use Policy
From BenchmarkWiki
Because author and editing rights to BenchmarkWiki have been given to a increasing number of people now is probably as good as time as any to begin creating an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The purpose of the AUP is not to unreasonably constrain authors freedom of expression but is instead designed to offer a reasonable basic framework in which everyone can agree to work. Of course being a Wiki if those with editing rights don't like it they can modify it :) So here goes.
Precepts
- To repurpose the words of Google's founder the first and overarching precept is "Do no evil". The purpose of the wiki is to harness the collective 'wisdom of the crowds' and not to provide a platform for personal polemic, criticism of funding or associated bodies, promotion of ideologies, potentially libellous statements, or any statement or assertion which may embarass or hurt the feelings or reputation of others. That doesn't mean you can't disagree it just means you have to do it in a civilized and respectful manner.
- Topics must be relevant to the overall work of the Benchmarking Exercise or the Pathfinder Programme.
- Proper reference and attribution must be given to the work of others.
- When possible hyperlinks to original sources should be provided.
- Any user with author/editing rights to BenchmarkWiki should feel free to undertake even major revisions to a wiki page if they believe they are adding further value to work of others. It would be courteous, however, to notify the original author (if known) of the impending change.
- When significant changes are made to a BenchmarkWiki page and the original author of the page is known the original author should be notified of the change by the reviser. Registered users of BenchmarkWiki may of course also set their personal preferences page to automatically notify them of any changes.
- The material in BenchmarkWiki is offered on a Creative Commons Attribution and Share-alike basis with attribution being stated as 'Higher Education Academy Benchmarking and Pathfinder Wiki'.
- Copyright works should not be submitted without permission
- Registration details must remain confidential to the individual holding a BenchmarkWiki account and must not be shared with any other individual.
